DONNY McCALL ON ABC NEWS: Alleghany's own In-Vis-A-Rack inventor was featured on ABC evening news recently. The focus was on the support extended to him after the Shark Tank rejected his made-in-America focus. It's a upbeat segment that reviews his Shark Tank experience. Check it out.

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY OPENS MAY 15: The Parkway will be open for traffic in Alleghany County. The campground, trails and picnic areas are open also. That's the good news. Not so good is that the Bluffs Lodge and Restaurant are not expected to be open until 2013.

MOUNTAIN HEARTH LODGE ON UNC-TV: This was a nice, long feature on this bed and breakfast inn along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It certainly spotlights the beauty and attractiveness of our community. Check it out. It's the fourth segment of the May 3 broadcast video: http://www.unctv.org/ncweekend/
I had hoped to be able to link everyone to the Alleghany Museum feature and the JAM piece on North Carolina NOW, but the videos have not been posted yet.

CANOE CAMP FOR YOUR YOUNGSTER: Riverside Canoeing is again offering weekly canoe camps beginning June 18 and continuing through the summer. Plan now to introduce you son or daughter to the wonders of the New River and teach them the art of river navigation. Camp is held daily from 9a- 5p, Monday through Friday.  Participants learn how to paddle canoes and kayak, spending a majority of their day on the river.  Along with basic paddling techniques, campers learn how to handle a boat in many situations on the river, water and boating safety, and learn about the ecology and dynamics of the New River from New River State Park rangers and staff from the National Committee for the New River. At the end of the week, campers will be joined by their families for a paddling trip on the river so that they can demonstrate their new skills, followed by a family BBQ.  Maximum number of participants is 8.

HAPPENING EVERY WEEK: >> Alleghany Jubilee: Come to listen or come to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play on Tuesday beginning at 7p and Saturday at 8p. This Saturday a film crew from public television is slated to be at the Jubilee, so put on your best duds and let's show folks in TV land what mountain music and dancing is all about. Admission $4. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the courthouse. 336-372-4591
